| Pre-Survey Groundwork
Once the draft questionnaire is complete, it is time to prepare
for the survey process. This involves two stages -
1. Sampling Design – The following are the steps to be followed
for drafting a sampling design:
a. Define the population – population of interest or the
target group
b. Select the unit of analysis - individuals, households, organizations
c. Identify subgroups in the population – on the basis of
gender, literacy, economic status, etc.
d. Select the sample size – number of respondents to be included
e. Determine the sampling frame – to help identify all the
members of the population, such that they have a chance of being
sampled
f. Select proper sampling method – probability sampling methods
being most ideal.

2. Training Programme – The following steps need to be followed
for carrying out a Training Programme
a. Deciding on number of field staff required – depending
on sample size, time taken to complete one questionnaire and timeline
for carrying out the CRC survey
b. Organization of field staff – Field Coordinator, Field
Supervisor and Field Investigator
c. Training of the field team – introductory briefing, mock
interviews
During the course of the main survey, care needs to be taken to
make sure that the sampling design is being followed along with
quality checks – accompanied interviews, spot checks, back
checks and final scrutiny of schedules.
